Ashton Cabinet
Often considered the first super-premium cigar, Ashton debuted in 1985 and has since grown to become one of the world's most recognized/beloved cigar brands. Hand rolled by the venerable Fuente family at their factory in the Dominican Republic, Ashton cigars are known for their classic, nuanced flavor profiles and expert craftsmanship.
This includes the Ashton Cabinet Selection, which is likely the cigar that most hobbyists envision whenever the Ashton name is brought up. This classic smoke first arrived in the late '80s, being among the first projects that Ashton worked on with the Fuente family. As story has it, the Cabinet Selection began as a spinoff from the Fuentes' Hemingway line, after Ashton fell in love with the shapely figurado sizes that Hemingways are known for and requested a Connecticut-wrapped version for the Ashton lineup. As such, you'll notice the same Salomon-like shape of the Hemingway throughout many sizes of the Ashton Cabinet Selection lineup today.
In terms of tobacco recipe, the Ashton Cabinet Selection begins with an all-Dominican binder/filler, which are aged for five to seven years before being rolled. These refined leaves are finished with the cigar's signature bronze-hued Connecticut Shade wrapper, amounting to a velvet-like experience of almond butter, clean cedar, roasted chestnuts, and semi-sweet natural honey.
