Crowned Heads Las Calaveras Decimo Anniversario
In 2014, Crowned Heads branched out from their usual Dominican craftsmanship, partnering with the García family (of My Father Cigars fame) and their renowned factory in Nicaragua to create one of the most beloved annual releases of the past decade: Las Calaveras.
The cigars were named after the La Calavera Catrina etching that is closely associated with the Latin Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) holiday. As such, the Las Calaveras cigars are made each year to pay tribute to loved ones that have passed over the year, including medallions that feature the initials of these individuals, which are displayed on the cigar's bands.
Twenty twenty-four is a particularly special year for the Las Calaveras line, marking its 10th anniversary. Celebrating the occasion, Crowned Heads released two versions of Las Calaveras: the standard version (Las Calaveras Edición Limitada 2024) and a celebratory edition known as Las Calaveras Décimo Aniversario. The latter cigar was rolled in a single 6" x 52 toro format, making use of an Ecuadorian Habano oscuro wrapper and all-Nicaraguan binder/fillers that were grown by the García family. Medium to full in intensity, the Las Calaveras Décimo Aniversario offers a dense profile, hitting notes of mineral-rich earth, baker's cocoa, mocha, candied nuts, and toasted hardwoods. The project was limited to 2,500 boxes of 10 cigars, sure to become one of the most sought-after releases of the year.
