The original Diamond Crown line goes all the way back to 1995, when Stanford Newman enlisted Carlos Fuente Sr. to help create a cigar to celebrate J.C. Newman Cigar Company's 100th Anniversary. Diamond Crown was designed to be a super-premium offering; Stanford's goal was to make the best cigar in the world, where price and time were no object. Diamond Crown is, of course, rolled at Fuente's Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia factory in the Dominican Republic. The final product would be released in two versions: Diamond Crown Natural and Diamond Crown Maduro. In the '90s, when this project was being worked on, the largest cigars on the market were in the 50 to 52 ring gauge range. By today's standards that is pretty average, but Stanford wanted every Diamond Crown to be 54, allowing the blend to use six individual tobacco leaves (a very large format for the time). Every Diamond Crown cigar goes through three inspections and is aged in lots of 50 cigars for a minimum of 12 months. Carlos Fuente personally chose only the best rollers to make Diamond Crown, paying them a premium wage. J.C. Newman uses a very special proprietary wrapper for the Diamond Crown Natural called the CFW, which undergoes a five-year aging process and double fermentation. CFW stands for Connecticut Fermented Wrapper. Below this leaf lies a Dominican binder and Caribbean and Central American fillers. When it comes to flavors, you can expect to be treated to a complex and layered profile, loaded with baking spices, cream, and butter.
