E.P. Carrillo Sumatra
The E.P. Carrillo Sumatra cigar marks the first release in Ernesto Perez-Carrillo's new Essence Series, a collection designed to explore the crucial role of the wrapper leaf in cigar blending. This series is set to highlight the unique characteristics that different wrappers bring to a cigar's flavor and experience, with the Sumatra as its debut offering.
Crafted in the Dominican Republic at Casa Carrillo, the E.P. Carrillo Sumatra features an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a signature ingredient for Hall-of-Fame blender Ernesto Perez-Carrillo. Beneath the wrapper lies a blend of two binder leaves—one from Nicaragua and the other from Honduras—paired with a mix of fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. This careful combination results in a medium-bodied smoke that balances depth and complexity, offering a nuanced smoking experience.
The Essence Series promises to be a significant exploration of cigar craftsmanship, with plans to release five more lines in the coming years, each focusing on a different wrapper type. The Sumatra release sets a strong foundation for what is to come, offering a flavor-forward experience that hits on notes of cedar, almonds, medium-roast coffee, gentle spice, and natural sweetness.
