Espinosa Sumatra
When Erik Espinosa ventured off onto his own in 2012—creating Espinosa Premium Cigars—he started the company off with a BANG, releasing the beloved Espinosa Habano cigar. This became the core line for Espinosa, being followed by a diverse suite in the years to come; this includes the Espinosa Especial (maduro), Espinosa Crema (Connecticut), and the latest to join the fold: Espinosa Sumatra.
With the same look and feel as former releases, the Espinosa Sumatra feels right at home. As with former releases, the cigars are rolled out of the company's own boutique-minded La Zona factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. Playing to Espinosa's strengths, the Sumatra is all-Nicaraguan at its core, using a top-secret recipe throughout the binder and filler that Erik likens to Colonel Sanders' "11 herbs and spices." This zesty foundation is finished with the cigar's signature ingredient: an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper that ties the blend together to perfection. Expect a medium-plus intensity, being loaded with an assortment of delicate spices through the retrohale. The cigar operates in the spicy-sweet range, hitting notes of red pepper flakes, nutmeg, gingersnap, and brown sugar through the finish.
