HVC La Rosa 520 Rare of Rare
If HVC Cigars' La Rosa 520 line sounds like an oddly specific title, it's because the cigar was named after company owner, Reinier Lorenzo's, home address when growing up in Havana, Cuba. The cigars first debuted in 2015, and have grown to become one of the most beloved offerings from HVC.
Of course, Reinier no longer resides in Cuba, and it would seem that the latest addition to the La Rosa 520 lineup follows him to his current home of Miami. Indeed, the HVC La Rosa 520 Rare of Rare cigars have been rolled at Miami's highly sought-after El Titan de Bronze factory, located in the famed Little Havana neighborhood. But this is not the only first for HVC, as the La Rosa 520 Rare of Rare cigar seems to have opened the flood gates in terms of tobacco exploration for Reinier and his boutique company. In addition to US production, the cigar uses a new wrapper (Sumatra), Dominican tobacco for the first time (Criollo '98), and medio tiempo for the first time as well!
HVC takes full advantage of El Titan de Bronze's top-tier craftsmanship, having the cigars rolled in a shapely 6" x 52 belicoso size. Along with the ruddy Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, La Rosa 520 Rare of Rare includes an Ecuadorian Habano binder and fillers of Dominican Criollo '98 and medio tiempo from Estelí, Nicaragua. All told, the cigars are among the finest achievements from HVC to date, showcasing a medium intensity with a laser-like focus on depth and long-lasting complexity. This begins with zesty notes of red pepper and nutmeg, opening up to include flavors of oak, candied nuts, aged leather, and toasted caramel.
