La Flor Dominicana La Volcada
La Volcada is the third release in an unofficial series of limited cigars from La Flor Dominicana. The 'series' began in 2015 with the LFD La Nox and was followed by the award-winning LFD Andalusian Bull in 2016. At IPCPR 2017, the company introduced La Volcada, a special blend that shares similarities from the former two releases.
As with its predecessor, La Volcada takes its name from LFD founder Litto Gomez and his background in Spain and Uruguay. Gomez was raised in Uruguay, a country that claims fame to the creation of the tango dance. In the tango, la volcada (translating to “the dip”) is perhaps the most famous step, where the leader and follower both lean forward, off-axis, into one another. This move is depicted elegantly on the cigar's band and provides inspiration for the blend.
The cigar builds on the success of La Nox and Andalusian Bull, with Litto's son Tony Gomez lending a hand in the creation of each cigar. La Volcada borrows the Mexican binder of La Nox, used as the wrapper for La Volcada. Likewise, the Andalusian Bull's Corojo wrapper is used for the cigar's binder. The blend is completed with Dominican filler tobaccos grown on the family's own La Canela farm. This is an exceptional blend that has been described as a La Nox on steroids, showing amped up spice, strength, and body. Flavors range from earth and black pepper, to cinnamon, lemon zest, roasted nuts, and a deep creaminess.
