La Palina Goldie
Since 2012, La Palina's annual release of the Goldie series has become one of the most beloved and anticipated creations in the realm of ultra-premium smoking experiences. The cigars are named for Goldie Drell Paley, wife of Sam Paley and grandmother of Bill Paley Jr., owner of La Palina Cigars. Goldie was the inspiration behind the original La Palina cigar from the late 1800s (made by Sam Paley's Congress Cigar Factory), and now graces the face of the famed La Palina Goldie cigar.
When first released in 2012, the Goldie was one of only a handful of cigars to be rolled at the ultra-boutique El Titan de Bronze factory in Miami's quaint Little Havana neighborhood. The cigar arrived with an all-star pedigree, including high-grade tobaccos and the entire run of cigars being handled by a single torcedor: Maria Sierra, a highly decorated category 9 roller from Cuba. In the years following Sierra's retirement (2017) and passing (2019), the Goldie tradition has been passed down to Lopez “Chino” Perez, who was personally trained by Sierra as her replacement.
The La Palina Goldie features a beautiful Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, along with an Ecuadorian binder and fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. This blend has a medium body and is deeply complex, with notes of cedar, sweet cream, espresso, and buttered toast.
