Matilde Serena Maduro
Matilde Cigars debuted in 2014 as a highly anticipated company, being spearheaded by Enrique Seijas and backed by his father, José Seijas, who is one of the most respected and influential cigarmakers of the modern era. In the decade since, José has since retired, passing the reins to the capable hands of his son, who has since expanded the company's portfolio to include a wide range of smoking profiles from two factories in the Dominican Republic.
While the first half of Matilde's existence was largely constrained to four lines, the introduction of the Matilde Serena Maduro in 2023 helped to breath new life into their portfolio. The cigars are the sequel to Matilde's mildest offering—Matilde Serena—with the darker Serena Maduro swapping portions of the recipe in order to deliver a fuller experience.
This begins with a chocolate-hued Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper, which is secured over a Dominican Criollo '98 binder and all-Dominican filler tobaccos. Crafted out of the Tabacalera Palma factory in the DR, the Matilde Serena Maduro cigar begins with a medium intensity, quickly ramping up to medium-plus and holding firm throughout the smoking experience. Expect flavors of black pepper, charred hardwoods, earth, toasted bread, and touches of cream through the finish.
