Now considered a top manufacturer in the world of premium cigars, the García family has one of the most admirable tales of triumph in the business. Once renowned as one of Cuba's best rollers, family patriarch, José "Don Pepín" García, made his way to Miami in the early 2000s, setting up a small boutique factory in the famed Little Havana neighborhood. By the mid-2000s, the company had gained some traction for Don Pepín's self-titled DPG cigars, though it wasn't until 2008 when things really took off. Jaime García, the son of Don Pepín, had blended a special cigar for his father, appropriately naming the cigar My Father. The cigar was such a hit that the Garcías changed the name of their company AND factory in Nicaragua to My Father Cigars. The My Father line now has many spinoffs fitting of a wide range of profiles, but the first addition came a year after the original My Father cigar. Dubbed My Father Le Bijou 1922, this cigar was blended by Don Pepín himself, continuing the theme of "father appreciation" by commemorating Pepín's father, who was born in 1922. As for Le Bijou, it is French for The Jewel, alluding to the cigar's luxurious smoking experience. This is a darker, stronger blend when compared to the original My Father cigar. It boasts a Nicaraguan puro recipe, using a Cuban-seed oscuro wrapper over a hearty selection of all-Nicaraguan binder/fillers. The My Father Le Bijou 1922 cigar is among the Garcías' most acclaimed releases in the family's two-decade-plus history, and was awarded Cigar Aficionado's prestigious Cigar of the Year award in 2015. The experience is medium to full in body, offering dark and chewy flavors of black pepper, fiery earth, bittersweet dark chocolate, and a syrup-like stone fruit sweetness through the finish.
